I haven’t sat down for a writing session in months. My laptop’s keyboards look a little terrifying, and my fingers feel a little rusty. So excuse my writing if it’s not on point.
Yes, this is the last edition of The Essence. I knew I had to end it quite a while ago, but I procrastinated a lot.
But why? Well, my goals and ambitions have changed significantly since I first launched this newsletter. I think it no longer has a place in my vision for the future of my writing business or other ventures. And I believe it’s unwise to spend more time working on it anymore.
I’ve been lazily managing this newsletter and sending the monthly editions for a long time, and it just feels inauthentic. If you look at the last editions, you’ll find that they are the old posts that I published on Medium. I just republished them here. And that wasn’t my intention for the newsletter at all. This shows how much I no longer cared about this newsletter, so this was the logical consequence of that.
Life’s too short to spend time doing things you don’t really care about; things that aren’t a good investment of your time. That’s why I’m ending this venture.
If you’re one of the few who still read my emails, I thank you sincerely. I appreciate any precious time you chose to spend reading any of my work. To show my gratitude, I have a gift. Here are some of the best resources I have learned from over the last 2—3 years that can greatly help you build your writing business successfully:
Courses: Writing Revenue: Write Well, Get Published, & Earn Money (Udemy) / Start A Profitable Freelance Writing Business In 5 Weeks (Udemy)
Books: The Boron Letters / The 1-Page Marketing Book / Advertising Secrets of the Written Word
Websites and blogs: Copyhackers / Make a Living Writing / Backlinko
Medium articles: How I Built a Full-Time Career as a Freelance Writer / Why Are So Many People Now Selling “How To Become a Freelance Writer” Courses. / How to land your dream clients — a step-by-step guide
(None of these links is an affiliate by the way)
If you’re smart enough to study and apply even a fraction of what you learn from these resources, you’ll be way ahead of the pack. I guarantee it.
Now you can go ahead and unsubscribe. Or you can stay if you want to. I may email you with relevant updates that might interest you (for example, whenever I publish an article related to the topics of The Essence. Or I might rebrand this newsletter and run it again or start a new newsletter altogether in the future). So if you don’t want to miss stuff like that, stay. Or you can unsubscribe and follow me on Medium and LinkedIn. I might post such updates there too.
Anyway, thanks for sticking with me until this moment. This newsletter is a failure. But the experience, because I’ve learned from it, is not. And I think this experience would be quite beneficial if I ever decided to launch a new email newsletter, which is very likely.
Overall, I’ve benefited from this newsletter. Did you? Have you applied any of the tips from these editions and benefited from them? If you did, let me know in a comment.
Thanks for choosing to follow and read what I write. I may have ended this newsletter but I haven’t ended my writing career. So make sure you don’t miss my future pieces by following me on social, or by staying on this list.
Thanks again, and until next time, I guess :)
